Choosing Artwork for your home – Handy Hints

20th November, 2009 - Posted by Almis - 1 Comment

Adding a piece of artwork to a blank wall can really bring a room to life and give it a lift. There are many things to consider prior to
purchasing art, such as shape, colour and positioning. Below are some handy hints I have listed to assist you with your choice.

Choose the best shape

Generally, a square of vertical piece looks best when the artwork sits on its own on a wall.
A horizontal piece generally presents better when positioned above furniture, such as a lounge, dining table, buffet or bed head.

Create the illusion of space

Choose paintings with lighter, brighter colours, as dark colours can draw a room in and make it feel smaller.
Don’t overdo the amount of artwork you’re displaying. One larger piece of artwork is more effective than several smaller ones.

Keep it at eye level

Artwork should be hung with the centre of the piece slightly above eye level. A common mistake people make is to hang their
artwork too high. Art is much more enjoyed and appreciated when you can look straight into it.

Hanging it straight

It is always recommended to use two hooks when hanging art no matter how small the piece to
ensure perfect alignment at all times. Using a spirit level can help determine the artwork sits perfectly square.

There is nothing more satisfying than to buy a piece of artwork that you love and find that it attracts a lot of compliments and
becomes a focal point in your home.

I totally agree and contrary to what most people think an empty room looks smaller than a styled, furnished room. Hiring artwork for when your property is for sale is a great way to add colour, dimension and style to a room and is very affordable. Beach & Bay Realty highly recommends this to our clients and artwork2u has assisted our clients many times.
